Pet supplements

Just like us, our pets need to take supplements to remain healthy. Pet supplements are products that are intended to complement the diet and help support and maintain a normal biological function. Products range from multivitamins for overall health to targeted formulas that claim to alleviate joint problems or canine cognitive dysfunction. In the same way that we are careful about our supplements, so should we be in choosing one for our pets.

We need to consult with a veterinarian to be sure that we are giving him the right kind of supplements in the right amounts. Because they are widely available and so easy to access, it has become more difficult to decide on what your pet needs, exactly. Pet doctors will be able to help, but if you would rather just try some that you can pick up from the grocery, take note of these precautions:

~Choose products manufactured by a reputable company.
~Buy pet specific products. There will be vitamins labeled as pet vitamins which can be given to all kinds of pet. Skip that and look for vitamin supplements that are specific to dogs, if your pet is a dog.
~Check your expiration dates.
