Western saddle blanket

A saddle blanket is placed under a saddle to absorb sweat and protect the horse’s back. It is used for all types of saddles and they come in different designs. It is usually made of wool or cotton or synthetic fabrics with similar characteristics. Some are a single thickness, others are made to be folded and used with a double thickness. When fitted under the saddle, they are approximately 35 inches square, though designs vary to fit horses of different sizes.

If you take care of your Western saddle blanket you can enjoy its services for a long time. Every few rides it will be a good habit to hang it over a wire and give it several good whacks. This will clear it of dust and loose hair. Vacuum cleaners are also good for sucking loose dirt and hair off the blanket. If you think it needs some washing, you can do that in a machine. It will feel a little stiff when newly washed but it should soften up after usage.
