~Do your homework by reading about housebreaking, training and behavioral problems. This will also give you an idea about the kind of dog that you might want
~Determine how much time you can allot to care for your dog. Some dogs need more care than others. This is another factor that will determine the breed that you should get.
~Is there enough money to cover food, veterinary expenses and the little extras like toys, a ceramic dog dish and comfortable shelter?
~Are you ready to live with a pet? Does your lifestyle allow it? Do you think your children will welcome it?

If after answering these questions, you decide to adopt a dog, bless your soul. It means a better life for a poor abandoned dog in the dog shelter.
