Adjust a Dog’s Diet to its Health Needs

It is a dog owner’s responsibility to provide his pet with a properly balanced diet every day. This could be a tall order, considering that there are some fifty nutrients that are now considered essential for dogs. Proteins (meat, fish, and eggs), fiber (green vegetables), fats (plant and animal), minerals, and vitamins must be included in the ideal diet. Providing them in the right amounts can be intimidating. Consider, too, that there are other factors that affect canine nutrition.

One is the dog’s size. It is obvious that a Chihuahua will need a different diet than a German shepherd. Another is the dog’s physical condition. Is he healthy? Is he suffering from some illness? A dog’s diet should be adjusted according to his health needs.
