atopic dermatitis in dogs
Now that you’ve got a dog as a pet, you need to learn about some of the more common skin problems in dogs. This information will be useful especially if you have children around the house who regularly play with your dog. One of the common problems is atopic dermatitis in dogs which is an allergic skin disease brought about by the dog’s sensitivity to household dust mites. This allergy is usually inherited and inherent in some dog breads like German Shepherds. So if your dog has atopic dermatitis, chances are his parents had them too.
This disease should not be treated lightly. The dog should be brought immediately to a vet for treatment. Treatment for atopic dermatitis in dogs may take longer than other dog skin problems. Oral medication could be given for several months and another option would be injecting the dog with anti allergy medicines. Other treatments could involve the use of steroids, food supplements, antibiotics and special dog shampoo.
